Distributor Cutaway

  1. The Race proven adjustable mechanical advance is top mounted, except for Chrysler, for easy access. It features a cam plate and weights that are precision stamped and blanked for precise accuracy of dimension and balance. The cam plate is TIG welded to the top of the shaft assembly and the weight pivot pins are stacked and TIG welded in place on the cam plate for reliable performance and long term durability. The whole assembly receives a nitrocarburized surface treatment, which greatly hardens and strengthens the surface, while reducing friction as well as providing a corrosion resistant finish. The weights ride on nylon rub pads in the cam plate to ensure long term smooth advance movement. Three (3) sets of advance springs and four (4) stop bushings, except for Chrysler, are supplied allowing the advance curve to be custom tailored to match the specific requirement of your engine.
  2. The high output, race reliable magnetic pickup is bolted to the base of the distributor. A finely tuned paddle wheel reluctor is mounted on the shaft assembly. This system generates an accurate trigger signal at all RPM levels, ensuring reliable performance from cranking to redline.
  3. The shaft is centerless ground, then polished and also receives the same friction reducing and corrosion resistant coating. The shaft rides on an upper sealed ball bearing and an extra long lower sintered bronze Oil-Lite bushing. This ensures both smooth and reliable operation up to 10,000 RPM as well as a much longer service life than other distributors with steel or polymer bushings.
  4. The CNC machined 6061-T6 heat treated 2-piece Hot Forged Racing distributor housing starts with a hot forged process which goes beyond a normal billet process to ensure that there are no weak spots or porosity and produces the strongest possible flex free parts. This ensures accurate machined tolerances as well as good looking finished distributor.
  5. The distributor cap, rotor and wire retainer are molded with a 30% glass filled polyester material (PBT), which offers high dielectric strength, resistance to carbon tracking as well as high impact strength for improved long term durability and extended service duty life. The cap and rotor contacts are brass and the rotor spring is stainless steel for long term maxi mum conductivity.

Chevrolet Distributors

These are the most popular distributors for race engines. The small cap and bowl design fits into locations where a larger or bulkier distributor will not.
The CNC machined 6061-T6 aluminum housing has O-ring grooves for use in a fully machined engine block. The centerless ground shaft rides on an upper sealed roller bearing with an extra long lower bronze Oil-Lite bushing for smooth operation and high RPM's and extended service life. The fully adjustable mechanical advance is welded to the top of the shaft for easy access and is plated to reduce friction and prevent corrosion for long term durability. The adjustable collar units offer 1-1/2" of adjustment, perfect for use with Tall deck blocks (not extra tall blocks) or when using modified heads, blocks, or intake manifolds. The dual pickup unit is ideal for circle track racing. It has a second redundant magnetic pickup that is exactly 180 degrees apart from the primary so that if you have to switch to the backup ignition system, the engine timing will remain constant.

Ford Distributor Drive Gears


Important information concerning the material compatibility of the camshaft and the distributor drive gear for Ford V8 engines:

  • Cast iron flat tappet camshafts, both mechanical and hydraulic type, require the use of a cast iron drive gear on the distributor.
  • Ford factory style bullet steel hydraulic roller camshafts require the use of a steel drive gear on the distributor.
  • Some aftermarket retrofit type hydraulic roller camshafts are made from SADI (Selectively Austempered Ductile Iron) cores. Those camshaftes require the use of a cast iron distributor drive gear.
  • This has caused a lot of confusion for everyone. Please check with your camshaft manufacturer for the material type to make sure you are using the correct material distributor drive gear. Faulure to use the correct material distributor drive gear will result in severe engine damage.

6 Series CDRL Multi-Spark Digital Ignition Control Box with Single Rev Limiter

Clean sheet design resulted in a high performance digital microprocessor controlled circuitry. The modern good looking light weight extruded housing uses a common bolt down pattern. All the wiring exits the control box though a header connector located at one end of the control box for clean and easy installation. The harness plugs into the unit using a sealed and locking Delphi Metri-Pack connector for improved durability. The cylinder select and rev limiter control setting rotary dial switches are located at the other end on the control box for easy access. No more having to cut wires to denote the engine cylinder count. Simply set the rotary selector switch to either; 4, 6 or 8. The single stage digital rev limiter can be set in 100 rpm increments up to 9900 RPM.
The 6 Series CDRLTM Multi-Spark Digital Ignition control box efficient digital circuitry draws only 0.7 Amps per 1000 RPM of engine speed. The control box delivers 525 volts to the coil and up to 130mJ of spark energy. The unit also multi-sparks up to 3,000 RPM for faster acceleration and improved throttle response. Sequential (not random) fire start mode for easier and faster starting.
The 6 Series CDRLTM Multi-Spark Digital Ignition control box's come complete with wiring harness, hardware and mounting kits. It is compatible with even-fire 4, 6 and 8 cylinder engines and 12-volt negative ground electrical systems. It will accept input trigger signals from breaker points, breakerless electronic modules as well as magnetic distributor or crank trigger pickups. It will not work with Hall Effect pickups.

High Output Coil for RTR Distributors

This coil is designed to work specifically with the high output inductive storage ignition module in the RTR distributors. The heavy gauge windings were engineered to ensure maximum power at higher RPM levels. A molded housing of glass reinforced polyester and high temperature epoxy encapsulation resists shock and vibration while providing excellent thermal conductivity. Brass primary contacts ensure maximum conductivity, while the male tower offers superior boot/terminal retention and protection from arch over.
This coil will also work with 6 series CD ignition systems.

This 3-port fuel pressure regulator is the most popular design due to its simple in-line installation, adjustability and high flow rate. This regulator uses a standard or dead head design making the installation very simple and straight forward, since plumbing a return back to the tank or fuel cell is NOT required. This regulator features a 2-piece anodized billet aluminum body. The large top mount adjuster screw and lock nut make adjusting the fuel pressure a quick and easy task. The extra-large diaphragm produces a very stable pressure over a wider than normal range of 1-1/2 to 14 PSI, without creep or fall off. This regulator features single bottom inlet and twin side outlet ports all with 3/8" NPT female threads, allowing it to be used in either single or multiple carburetor applications. This fuel pressure regulator also features a 1/8" NPT female threaded port for mounting a fuel pressure gauge. This regulator is compatible with gasoline and Ethanol blends including E85. This is NOT compatible with Methanol fuels

Programmable Ignition Controller PN 99182.xxx

Toyota and GM late model 24x and 58x. It can be programmed to run off a front or rear cam sensor or ever run waste spark when no cam input sensor is available. System is functional through VR or HR distributor input trigger as well. This box literally has numerous capabilities including: dual stage rev limiting, over temp protection and prevention, spark duration control as well as fully programmable timing curve in 100 RPM increments. It can control and activate other systems, such as; fuel pumps or cooling fans. It can be programmed for two different fuels, such as low octane pump gas and racing fuel or a second timing curve for use with nitrous.
The ignition system is a lap top programmable stand alone ignition only unit designed for late model automotive, off-road and UTV applications with factory crank trigger style ignition and fuel control or distributor less applications. This system allows conversion from factory fuel injection to carburetion or other regulated fuel systems while maintaining an independent fully programmable ignition without the use of factory ECU.
This system also works with earlier distributor based ignitions and allows it to be upgraded to a crank trigger or distributor less Ignition option as well improving spark performance and ignition timing accuracy due to much high resolution signalling. This system can also be used with a locked distributor. Many street applications use carburetors but still require an advanced ignition control for the performance with low grade emissions fuels. Also many race sanction bodies require the use of a distributor based ignition control. This system will allow for a quality timing control system while applying the spark back through the distributor output.
This system also offers both barometric and vacuum timing with advance and retard functions. It is in essentially a digital equivalent of a mechanical and vacuum advance distributor with timing advance and retard options based on boosted or nitrous applications.
Safety and reliability features included temperature sensor input for cooling fan functions as well as fuel pump relay control for fuel pump cutoff within 10 to 15 seconds after the lost of engine trigger signal in the event of a stall, crash or roll over. The system also offers two stage rev limiting.
The system can control a single coil or 8 individual coils sequentially or individual coils in waste spark firing sequence for V10, V12 or twin plug V8 engines. This system can either trigger smart coils (coil with integrated drivers) or directly fire dumb coils. Based on the trigger wheel resolution, timing functions can be accurate to +/- ¼ of a degree at any rpm point during both acceleration and decal at any RPM point.

Redline offers an electrical Connection Box. Our connection box is designed to make wiring your electronic devices simple and easy. Simply connect and switch your engine management systems (ECU), electric fuel pumps, variable valve timing (VVT), cooling fans, nitrous sustems, or any high amperage loads up to 40A at 12V. Our box will virtually eliminate any wiring confusion and simplify the installation of any control system.

Connection Box Features:

  • Diode protected relays, 2-40amp and 2.25amp on a strip-line printed circuit board. The diode in the relay protects your equipment from damaging voltage spikes. The automotive relays are sealed which help protect the contacts from exposure to the elements for trouble free operation.
  • ATC 1/4" blade fuses, 2-30amp and 2-15amp fuses. These are the most commonly available fuses and easily replaced if blown.
  • Standard, 12 position bus bar, using the standard 1/4" round eyelet wire terminals. This divider style bus bar is labelled for easy identification and by design will help eliminate accidental shorting.
